Engineering Manager, Privacy
Privacy · Remote

Privacy is the virtual card platform giving consumers and small businesses complete control over their online payments.

Our virtual cards protect 250,000+ users across the U.S., processing over $3 billion in transactions with bank-level security and encryption. From merchant-locked cards that can't be used anywhere else if stolen, to spending limits that block unauthorized charges, to one-click pausing that stops subscriptions instantly, Privacy puts financial control back in users' hands.

We're building a future where every online payment is secure by default, free from data breaches, unauthorized charges, and hidden fees. We're proud to have been named one of Forbes' "Top 100 Most Customer-Centric Companies" and featured in The Wall Street Journal, TechCrunch, and Wirecutter.

Privacy is the product that started it all. What began as Privacy.com grew into Lithic, now a Series C company backed by world-class investors including Bessemer Venture Partners, Index Ventures, Spark Capital, Stripes, and Mastercard, along with many others. Our dedicated team of 35 sits at the heart of Lithic's 170+ person organization, spanning 26 states and 7 countries, headquartered in New York City.

We are hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the engineering team behind [Privacy.com](http://privacy.com/) through its next phase of growth. You will lead a nimble team of engineers who own the entire [Privacy.com](http://privacy.com/) product scope. The stack is primarily NodeJS and DocumentDB on AWS ECS Fargate. This is a player-coach role. We expect you to spend roughly a third of your time hands-on coding while growing the team and keeping it focused on the highest-impact work.

### **What You’ll Do:**

- Lead and grow a team of engineers, owning performance, development, and overall team health
- Stay hands-on, spending roughly a third of your time coding, reviewing designs, and unblocking the team
- Ensure high reliability and correctness across the [Privacy.com](http://Privacy.com) product, including card processing
- Own multi-month initiatives from planning to launch, partnering with engineers on architectural direction while keeping stakeholders informed and aligned
- Partner closely with Product and cross-functional stakeholders to clarify requirements early and keep engineering time focused on the highest-impact work
- Make thoughtful tradeoffs between long-term platform investment and immediate product value
- Raise the bar on operational excellence: observability, incident response, and pragmatic reliability improvements
- Lead efforts to improve systems, processes, and documentation so new team members can ramp quickly
- Recruit, hire, and retain strong engineering talent
- Participate in and help evolve the team’s on-call rotation

### **What You Bring:**

- Experience managing and growing engineers, including coaching, feedback, and hiring
- Strong technical judgment and system design skills, especially for distributed systems and high-reliability production services
- Comfort staying close to the work, with the ability to code, review designs, and unblock the team
- Experience shipping and operating production services, with a bias toward measurable reliability and pragmatic iteration
- Experience leading a team through large, multi-month projects while balancing long-term investment against near-term delivery
- Experience with NodeJS and AWS (or closely related stacks), and an ability to ramp
